Research and Choreography

Jonny’s interest in how the body thinks and communicates ties together his choreography and his dance research.

“Today’s dancers are trained to do so much. They are all athletes, artists, actors, technicians. They are people with interesting lives away from work, people who have thoughts and opinions.

I work with dancers, through engaging them with my choreographic practice, to create stuff that shares who they are and how their bodies want to think and talk on stage.”

Jonny works with different groups of people, with dancers and non-dancers, to research how the body thinks. The output of this research is choreography. Depending on who he is working with, the styles of this choreography can vary. The process is person centred and is un-apologetically collaborative between Jonny and those involved in the process.
